2007 - La Coulée du Siècle
Explore the last flow that changed the landscape of Piton de la Fournaise: from its heart to the ocean.
Before the immersion, a time for observation and explanations from a 360° viewpoint of the flow, its environment and the ocean.
Just a few metres away, the entrance porch gives access to the tunnel that runs along both sides of the Route des Laves. The exploration, which tends to be uphill, is punctuated by a short climb and a handrail some twenty metres long.
Inside, you'll discover magnificent “penstocks”, gravity-defying lava concretions and shafts of light that will light up your exploration.
As for the exit from the tunnel... it's worth the trip in itself!
Medium (mostly standing, some bent-back sections, “4-legs”, optional crawling, rope and walking on unstable boulders).
