Bassin Bleu Tunnel - The Western Tunnel
Emerging from the island's founding volcano, this 350,000-year-old tunnel offers a unique volcanic caving experience! Ropes, progression, volumes and concretions offer, in my opinion, the most “caving” experience on the island.
What you'll experience:
Nestling just a few metres above the eponymous pool, we enter the tunnel via a short, easy climb.
Two “4-legged” passages will enhance your progress in a gallery of unexpected and impressive dimensions.
A colony of Mascarene Salanganes, calcite stalagtites, hydro-magnesite... so many features unique to this cave, making this an unforgettable exploration.
To round off the outing, a short abseil (zip line available on request and depending on the size of the group).

Easy (mostly standing, with a few bent-back, 4-legged and roped passages). Climbing and abseiling are not difficult, as the rope (and guide!) are there for back-up and assistance.
3 h 30 (approx. 2 h 30 underground); 4 h 00 with zip line
